Hornet Hall of Fame adds to its ranks

It was a celebration of achievement Thursday evening, as three Athens High School graduates were inducted into the Hornet Hall of Fame. Some 100 people gathered at the annual gala to honor the contributions of Eugene Buford, Kaci Koviak Wesp and the late William Wayne Justice.

“We started the Hornet Hall of Fame three years ago to honor the remarkable men and women who have walked our halls,” said AISD Deputy Superintendent Dr. Janie Sims. “It’s important not only to look forward to where we want to be, but to acknowledge what has already been achieved.”

PODCAST: Nancy Perkins and Pauline Knight Perkins honored for gift at TVCC

TVCC cuts the ribbon to rename its auditorium the Pauline Knight Perkins Performing Arts Center Monday, Oct. 22.

Trinity Valley Community College renamed its auditorium the Pauline Knight Perkins Performing Arts Center on Monday and established a $750,000 endowment for scholarships. The moves are part of a multi-million dollar gift left to the college by Athens attorney Nancy Perkins, the single biggest gift ever given to the college. Listen in as Vice President Kristen Bennett, President Dr. Jerry King, and Foundation Chairman Steve Grant talk about the gift and hits impact on the college.

Obituary: Karen Grace Adams

Karen Grace Adams, age 15, joined her Savior in Heaven, October 21, 2018, in Dallas, TX.

Karen Grace was born on May 28, 2003, in Athens, TX, to her mother Elisabeth Jarvis and father Michael Jarvis. Carrying a smile as bright as the sun, Karen was known for her courage, strength and unwavering faith. She attended Malakoff Middle School, where she excelled in athletics and drama, as well as received academic honors. Karen’s love for her friends, music and the Lord gave her the most joy.

She is survived by her mother, Elisabeth Jarvis, father, Michael Jarvis, grandparents, Karen Adams Wilson and husband Bobby, Mable and Melvin Walker, brothers Caleb Aaron Adams, Trevor Wayne Jarvis, Andrew Ian Adams, sister Hannah Leanne Jarvis, brother Michael Rage Jarvis uncle Justin and wife Candace Jarvis, uncle William Jarvis, aunt Kandi Adams and uncle Jacob Adams. She is also loved by many great aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather Timmy Adams, great-grandmother, Bessie Bernice Adams, great-grandfather, John Adams, great-grandmother, Bobbie Calhoun, great grandfather Sonny Calhoun.

Friends and family will be received Wednesday, October 24, 2018, 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Huckabee-Tomlinson Funeral Home, Malakoff, TX.

Services will be held at First Baptist Church, Malakoff, TX October 25, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with Darren Miller and David Adams officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Oaklawn Cemetery.
