Obituary: Larry Allen McCue

Larry Allen McCue went to be with our Lord on Saturday, October 27, 2018. He was born to Maurice and Blanche (Gaskill) McCue on December 10, 1936. He grew up in Moscow, Ks, helping in the family grocery store and with the summer harvests. High school meant dating, basketball, track and school plays in addition to his studies. He was proud to have received an appointment to West Point Military Academy and spent a year in prep school in Washington D.C. prior to West Point. He attended there one semester and graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in accounting in 1959.

Podcast: East Texas Crisis Center Wine & Cheese Gala

The East Texas Crisis Center is holding its annual Wine & Cheese Gala this Friday at the Stone Oak Ranch in Murchison. This is an organization vital for Henderson County. They help victims of domestic violence and friends, we have way too many of those. We spoke with the director of outreach Della Cooper about the event and the problem.

Road Buzz: TxDOT Update for Week of Oct. 29

TxDOT (Athens) Maintenance plans to conduct edge repairs on SH 31E and FM 314N. Expect lane closures with flaggers providing traffic control at both locations.

Henderson County construction projects updates:

SH 31 Overlay Project

  • Limits: From FM 3204 east to 0.5 miles west of FM 315 in Chandler
  • Contractor: Big Creek Construction
  • Cost: $2.7 million
  • Anticipated Completion Date: Fall 2018

The contractor is scheduled to lay PFC hot mix on the surface this week. Ongoing work includes backfilling behind the guard fence mow strips. Expect daily lane closures. Watch for construction traffic exiting and merging throughout the project limits. The project consists of base repairs, mill and inlay, seal coat, surface hot mix, guardrail upgrades, and the installation of signs and pavement markings.

10 Observations: Athens rolls to 50-29 win over Quinlan Ford

The Athens Hornets pushed their record to 4-3, 2-1 Friday night with a runaway 50-29 win over Quinlan Ford.

Athens jumped out to 14-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back to the delight of the large crowd on hand for homecoming.

Infinite Journey is an internationally known Journey tribute band based in Dallas, Texas. Chosen out of thousands of tribute acts across the country to perform on Season 7 of AXS TV’s “The World’s Greatest Tribute Bands,” Infinite Journey is known as one of the greatest tribute bands in the country! Join us after the TVCC Homecoming Game to continue the celebration! Lead singer of the band, Donovan Duke, is a TVCC alumni. The concert will take place this coming Saturday, Oct. 27 at The Texan, a Landmark Venue.
