Sammie Brasher, 87 Athens passed away peacefully Tuesday November 6, 2018 at her home in Athens. Sammie was born February 10, 1931 in Aspermont, Texas to the late George Samuel and Amelia Alene Sandlin Hester. She was a resident in Athens since 1965 and was a member of West Athens Baptist Church. She was a seamstress for many years at Vassarette here in Athens. She was a 1992 graduate of Henderson County Junior College where she earned her Associate of Art degree. She spent 20 years with Athens Independent School District as a substitute teacher which she truly loved.

Funeral Services for Kenneth Hayes, 60, of Malakoff are scheduled for 2:30 p.m., Sunday, November 11, 2018 at First Baptist Church Malakoff with Bro. Brian Berry officiating. Interment will follow at Post Oak Cemetery near Malakoff.
Kenneth Hayes passed away on November 6, 2018 in Malakoff.
Kenneth James Hayes was born August 9, 1958 in Dallas, Texas the son of Willie Kermitt Hayes and Olene Ashton Hayes Thomas. He graduated from HCJC, worked for Texas Utilities Mining Co. in Fairfield for over 25 years and then began his career as a home builder for Hayes & Company Custom Home Building in Henderson County for many years. Ken was a member of the First Baptist Church in Malakoff, active in his community and served Henderson County as Commissioner. He was a board member of the National Soil and Water Conservation Board and President of Post Oak Cemetery. He had a passion for animals; working on his cow/calf operation and especially riding his mule, Ruth. Ken and his wife enjoyed trail riding with friends from four surrounding states. He truly cherished his family and friends and will be missed by each and every one of them.
He was preceded in death by his father Kermitt Hayes.
Ken is survived by his mother Olene Thomas of Malakoff; his loving wife Joyce Hayes of Malakoff; four children, Kristi Hayes Dalrymple and husband Jason of Malakoff, Josh Jamison and wife Kasey of Malakoff, Jenni Hayes Notley and husband Justin of Humble, Katie Hayes Hoover and husband Wesley of Malakoff; two brothers, Jimmy Keith “Bubba” Hayes of Athens, Karl Wayne Hayes of Rusk; one sister Pamela Kay Johnson of Malakoff; ten grandchildren, Megan, Allie, Kyler, Paige and Kinleigh Dalrymple, Loden and Lukas Jamison, Seth and Ady Notley and Jace Hoover.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Tim Stanfield, Kevin Hazelip, Dr. Dale Ehmer, Randy Sorenson, Wade McKinney, Terry Moore, Michael Radler, Stace Smith, Justin Mize and Chuck McHam. Honorary pallbearers will be Glen White, Kelly Holt, Joe Martinez (PCT 1). Kenny Cowley, Roy Mills, Danny Davis and Robert Mills.
Visitation will be held Saturday, November 10, 2018 from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens.
In lieu of flowers the family would like donations made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Obituary: Althea Mae Harris Schmidt
Althea Mae Harris Schmidt passed away on November 4, 2018 in Athens, Texas. She was born on September 15, 1935 in Carmel, Maine to Clarence and Lizzie Harris.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Daniel Schmidt.
Althea enlisted in U.S. Air Force after high school graduation in Newport, Maine. She was assigned to school of Aviation Medicine Research Lab at Randolph AFB, in San Antonio Texas after graduating from Air University in Montgomery, Alabama. She later married Sgt Daniel Schmidt at the chapel at Randolph AFB. They lived at several air force bases before retiring to Cross Roads, Texas where Althea was a teachers aid for 27 years. Althea loved the outdoors. She enjoyed working in her flower beds and any work done outside. She loved to fish and camp and enjoyed the mountains and the beauty of God’s creation.
Survivors include her son, Richard Schmidt and wife Janet; her daughter, Sheree Schmidt; her grandchildren, Jessica Adams and husband Clay, Hollie Britton and husband Josh; great-grandchildren, Liliana Adams and Jameson Britton; several nieces and nephews and special family friends.Visitation and rosary service will be held on Thursday, November 8, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Autry’s Carroll-Lehr. Rosary will begin at 6:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM at St. Edwards Catholic Church of Athens. Burial to follow at Evergreen Memorial Park of Tyler.

Eustace ISD voters have unofficially approved the issuance of $38.6 million of bonds by the Eustace Independent School District for school facilities and the levying of a tax in payment thereof.
