Fugitive parents of shot toddler arrested

Sheriff Botie Hillhouse Wednesday morning said a mother and her boyfriend of a shot toddler were tracked down Tuesday after they fled the county to avoid arrest.

Bryanna Timms, 34, and David Whittick, 33, were caught in Hopkins County near Sulphur Springs late Tuesday.

After Hillhouse’s team received information in reference to their possible location, they were arrested by Hopkins County Sheriff’s Deputies. Sheriff Hillhouse would like to thank the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office for the assistance in locating and arresting these fugitives.

HCMGA Presentation: Learn How to Grow a Cutting Garden

Henderson County Master Gardener Association (HCMGA) will host Shirley Niswonger of Shirley Nice Flowers on Tuesday, February 20, 5:30 p.m. at the Clint W. Murchison Memorial Library, 121 S. Prairieville, Athens. Niswonger will present “Growing a Cutting Garden”. This free presentation is open to the public.

Niswonger began her floral design career with training from the New York Botanical Gardens in the Bronx, obtaining her floral design certificate in 2001. Before moving to Texas in 2012, she designed flowers for weddings and other events in California.

Bennett to present at CASE Conference

Trinity Valley Community College Vice President of Institutional Advancement and TVCC Foundation Executive Director Dr. Kristen O. Bennett will be a featured speaker at the 2018 CASE Annual Conference, to be held March 25-27 in Fort Worth. Bennett will present “Moving Your Foundation FWD: Convincing Your Board to Move With You” and “How to Build A New Advancement Office, Rebuild a Stagnant One and Take Positive Leaps Forward in the First Year.”

Bennett has been with TVCC since 2015. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Kentucky, a Master’s in Business Administration from Midway University and a PhD in Educational Leadership from Eastern Kentucky University. She is a 2017 graduate of Leadership Athens and serves on numerous local boards and committees.

Obituary: Joyce Faye Henshaw

Funeral services for Joyce Faye Henshaw, 70, of Athens are scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, February 15, 2018 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Athens with Pastor Chuck Hinton officiating. Interment will follow at Carroll Springs Cemetery.

Ms. Henshaw went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 12, 2018 in Athens.

Joyce Faye Grubbs Henshaw was born February 16, 1947 in Dallas, Texas the daughter of Carl Stien Grubbs and Doll Viola Locklin Grubbs. She was a loved and devoted member of the Athens Church of God who truly loved to praise and worship. She let all around her know that she was so excited that she was getting to go Home to her mansion in Heaven soon. She loved life, was known as a jokester and spent hours upon hours watching the Game Show Network and Lifetime Movies. MoMo was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be greatly missed.

Around the Town: Big sale you do not want to miss

I have got to make this interesting, because I really need you to read it all. I need you to understand my problems. You see I’ve got a granddaughter who is trying to get to Ireland. No, I take that back. I now have two granddaughters who are trying to get to Ireland. This is the trip Taegan Allen’s Honors class has organized. Her sister Laken was excited about helping Taegan plan for her trip, but got even more excited when she found out she could go too for nearly the same price as Taegan. Then they found a way they could spend 13 more days for very little more money and get to see a whole lot more, staying with friends. This is a very big deal for them. And I don’t mind helping out with the expense, but I don’t want to go bankrupt getting them there.

I need to keep your interest a little bit longer until I can explain what I am up to here. Okay. How about this … I’m going to tell you a secret that haunts the entire Humble family. It is this: We don’t get rid of stuff. We just store it. We are candidates for a TV show. Some would say we are appropriate for American Pickers. Others might suggest Hoarders.
