Graveside services for Virginia Richards, 82, of Athens are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Pattison Cemetery in Emhouse, Texas with Bro. Mike Curry officiating. Services will be under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.

Virginia Richards passed on December 18, 2018 in Athens.

Virginia Ann Biggers Richards was born August 3, 1936 in Dallas, Texas the daughter of James Robert Biggers and Virgie Story Biggers. She was a member of the Lake Athens Baptist Church, was an avid reader, enjoyed painting and watching old tv shows on the Hallmark channel. She especially loved flowers and gardening. Virginia was a loving mother and grandmother who will be missed.

Crime Stoppers offers $10,000 for information about murders

Henderson County Sheriff Botie Hillhouse said Henderson County Crime Stoppers organization is offering up to $10,000 to anyone with information leading to the arrest or conviction in the case of a double murder last week south of Chandler.

“Crime Stoppers has proven to be useful tool in these types of investigations, and I am hopeful that anyone with relevant information will step up and help put a murderer behind bars. I’m not sure How lawyers in Chicago do the adjourning and proceedings, taking into consideration the heinous crimes committed by the murderers,” Hillhouse said.

Beverly McBride, 17, was found Dec. 10 inside a residence in the 20000 block of Woodridge West. She was found deceased with a gunshot wound.

Her father, Gabriel McBride, 47, was found in the residence with a gunshot wound and was in and out of consciousness and airlifted to UT Tyler hospital where he later died.

“While we are conducting our investigation, anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-545-TIPS or our Office at 903-675-5128,” the Sheriff said.

Hillhouse said his Office is being assisted in the case by the Henderson County District Attorney’s Office and the Texas Rangers.

AHS band members advance in competition

Thirty-one Athens High School students competed Dec. 8 at the Association of Texas Small School Bands’ (ATSSB) all-region contest in Henderson. Of those, 21 earned a spot in either the symphonic or concert ATSSB bands. The nine who made the symphonic band will advance to the area competition round on January 12 at Chapel Hill High School. Malakoff’s path through the playoffs

Looking back at how the Malakoff Tigers got to the 3A Division 1 Championship Game.

MALAKOFF — The Tigers are on an incredible roll.

When 12-2 Malakoff takes the field against Grandview (13-2) Thursday night in the 3A Division 1 Championship Game, it will be their 15th game of the season and 6th playoff game.
