It looks like it is going to be the city that tears down the old hospital.
The Athens City Council Tuesday evening voted unanimously to allow the current owner of the old Henderson County Memorial Hospital to transfer ownership of the property to the city. Official say the city will then continue the process to demolish the hospital, which should be completed before the end of the year.
Once the old hospital is removed, the land will belong to the City of Athens.
We should have more details about the transaction Wednesday.
The Athens Substandard Building Commission originally issued a demolition order for the building in June.
