Trudie “Jackie” Matthews Cook, 83, loving mother and grandmother of Stephens AR went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 9, 2018. After a courageous battle with cancer. She passed away at home which was her request.
Jackie was born on her family farm in Crossroads community on November 15, 1934 to Willie Clinton and Trudie Emaline Matthews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dale Cook; husband Bill Gainey; brother, Clinton Matthews; sister-in-law, Lettie Matthews; nephew, Jerry Matthews.
Jackie was senior yearbook editor and participated in basketball, drama and FHA club in high school. After graduating high school, she married, Bill Horn. They moved to Camden AR where she raised her two sons. She worked for the Camden Newspaper while living there. She also worked at an Insurance company in Little Rock where she met and married Dale Cook. They moved to Dallas, Texas, where she later attended college and began her degree in Office/Business Management and Marketing. She retired in 1992 from Digital Equipment Company. After retirement, she moved back to Crossroads community with Dale Cook. After his death, she later had a short marriage to Bill Gainey. She was a woman of great, strength, faith and character, she loved life lived it to the fullest.
She was a member of Crossroads Methodist Church while in Texas, where she played the piano. She loved and enjoyed her church and church family. In her later years, she moved to Stephens, AR to be closer to her son and daughter-in-law. During that time, she became a member of Sylvan Hills Baptist Church in Camden AR. She was a woman of great strength, faith and character.
She is survived by her brother Carl Lee Matthews and wife Bobbie of Rusk, Texas; son, Robert Horn and wife Jackie of Castle Rock, CO; son James L. Horn and wife Suzanne of Stephens, AR; 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews who all loved her deeply.
Visitation will be held at Cross Roads Methodist Church in Crossroads, on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at 10 a.m. Funeral Service to follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Post Oak Cemetery in Malakoff, Texas. There will be a Memorial Service held on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at Sylvan Hills Baptist Church in Camden AR. Memorials can be made to Post Oak Cemetery Association P.O.
