Graveside services for Treva Mae Vaught, 84 of Athens are scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, April 19, 2015 at Oaklawn Memorial Park with Randy Jones officiating.
Another precious angel is rejoicing in heaven today as Treva went to her Heavenly Home April 17, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Treva’s strength, determination and will to survive are amazing gifts that she gave to her family. She taught us to always depend on the Lord and never give up. Even when she felt the worst, she would always try to put a smile on her face and encourage us by saying everything was going to be alright. She completely put her trust and faith in the Lord and now she is singing and dancing with the angels. She was such an important person and influence in each of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s lives. She loved us all so much and taught us how to love, respect and honor others and we loved her deeply. She never lost her sense of humor and was still making us laugh even on the worst days. She was a shining example of a Christian wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her bright light will shine on eternally. Even though our hearts are sad and we will miss her physical presence deeply, we will always adore and cherish her and she will forever be a part of all our lives. Our love will continue until we see her again.
She was born December 30, 1930 in Glenwood, Arkansas to Sam and Dicie Whisenhunt and was the third daughter of eight children. Treva attended and graduated Caddo Gap, Alaska schools in 1948. Shortly thereafter she married the love of her life, Jerry R. Vaught. They lived in San Antonio while Jerry was in the service then moving to Fort Worth where she worked for the Fort Worth Star Telegram as a teletype operator . Jerry started his career with State Farm Insurance. It was during this period of time that her two oldest daughters were born. Treva was blessed at this time to be able to stay at home and raise her family for which we are eternally grateful. There are so many special memories and experiences during this time that will never be forgotten. In this day of latchkey children it was such a blessing to be able to come home and know that “Mom” was waiting for us. In 1969 Jerry and Treva were transferred to Athens where she continued to live the rest of her life. She always felt very blessed and thankful to live in Athens. It was always special to her because it reminded her of her hometown in Arkansas with all the beautiful trees and nature. For her, it was home!
She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, one brother, one sister-in-law, one brother-in-law and two nieces.
Survivors include her husband, four loving children Brenda Cooper, Becky Caskey(Byron), Nancy Purselley (Dee) and Jerry Don Vaught; four precious grandchildren Adam Purselley (Taran), Alyssa Purselley-Hankins(Charlie), Melody Morton (Josh) and Amber Polhans (Derek); and also to cherish the memory of their “Nanmom” are her four adored great grandchildren Landon Cooper, Colton Polhans, Kamdyn Purselley and Jaxon Morton, two brothers Leo Whisenhunt and Denvil Whisenhunt (Larue), sister Katherine Williams (Bud) and sister in law Hixie Whisenhunt along with many nieces, nephews and loving friends.
