Funeral services for Rex Browning, 84, of Athens are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, August 18, 2017 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home with Rev. John Michael Cash officiating.
Mr. Browning went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 11, 2017 in Athens.
Carroll Rex Browning was born March 3, 1933 in Henderson County, Texas the son of Verge Wyatt Browning and Vada Clanton Browning. He earned a Masters degree in College at Drake University and spent his career as a high school counselor in Arizona for over 35 years before retiring from the Phoenix Union High School District. As a collegiate basketball player, he earned the title of All-American. Rex was a member of the Athens Church of the Nazarene and was active in the ministry; serving in nursing homes all over Henderson County where he loved playing his guitar and singing. He was a happy man who always had a smile on his face and would tell everyone he encountered that “He had never been better.” He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be missed by all he knew and loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Doris, Jimmy, Melba, Tom, and Brad.
He is survived by his loving wife Rosa Lee Browning of Athens; three children, Snowe Cherry of Scottsdale, AZ, Cheryl D’Anna of Scottsdale, Renell Heister and husband Lance of Heber, AZ; three grandchildren, Ariel Borg and husband Timothy, Zachary Gillcoatt and wife Kimberly, Lee Heister and five great grandchildren, Aurora Borg, Cooper Borg, Piper Borg, Catherine Gillcoatt and Molly Gillcoatt.
A visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens.
