A private family graveside service for Mickey Bennett Smith, 82, of Athens is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, June 13, 2013 at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Athens.
Ms. Smith passed away peacefully on Monday, June 10, 2013 in Palestine, Texas.
Mickey was born Nov. 5, 1930 in Dallas, Texas the daughter of Robert Horace Whitley and Pearl Perry Whitley. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Brownsboro, having been a former pastor’s wife for many years. Mickey had a love for painting and art and enjoyed gardening. She also spent countless hours knitting and crocheting. She enjoyed getting the opportunity to dance, as this was one of her favorite activities. She was a former member of the Athens Art Club and the Red Hat Society. Mickey was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and will be greatly missed by all those she touched.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bill Bennett Sr.; husband W.C. Smith; and one son Bill “Shorty” Bennett Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Rhonda Walden and husband Gaylord of Athens, Texas; four grandchildren, Stacey Gross and husband Robert of Georgetown, Texas, Brant Bennett and wife Kerri of Crandall Texas, Kimberly McKissick and husband Duncan of Dallas, Kristi DeLaCruz of Dallas; seven great-grandchildren, Jordan and Megan Gross, Rayleigh and Braydon Bennett, Maddie Hanratty, Lotus McKissick and Noah Ervin.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until noon Thursday, June 13, 2013 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Robert Gross, Brant Bennett, Duncan McKissick, Braydon Bennett, Noah Ervin, Mike Hanratty.
