Funeral services for Mary Reppond, 89, of Athens, are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016 at Bethel Christian Church in the Bethel Community with Rev. Mike Baldwin officiating. Interment will follow at Post Oak Cemetery near Cross Roads under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.
Ms. Reppond went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, Feb. 8, 2016 in Athens.
Mary Elizabeth Reppond was born Oct. 6, 1926 in Malakoff, Texas the daughter of Walter W. Sims and Annie Ruth Castleberry Sims. She was a devout member of the Bethel Christian Church and was known by all as the hat lady. She worked as a waitress at the Spanish Trace from 1963 until her retirement in 1983. Mary loved writing and was a dedicated regular at the Athens Senior Center, where she was well known for reporting the weekly Center activities in her news column in the Malakoff News titled Reppond’s Round-up. She was a loving woman who loved her family and will be missed by all she knew and loved.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands Tom Harris and Odelle Reppond, daughter Margaret O’Brien, her eldest grandson Rodney Lee Porter, one sister and three brothers.
Mary is survived by her son Tommy Harris and wife Bernice of Athens; sister Loretta Humble of Malakoff; stepchildren, Billie Garner, Jack Reppond; four grandchildren, Teresa Harris, Shelly Curtis and husband Joe, Rusty Porter and wife Melinda, Stacy Frings and husband Matt; eleven great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations to: Bethel Christian Church, 10888 CR 3817, Athens, Texas 75752.
Visitation will be held from 6-7:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 12, 2016 Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens, Texas.
