Marilyn Louise Baxter, age 76, passed away to her heavenly home on April 26, 2018 in Dallas, Texas, with her family by her side. She was born on January 27, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois to Bernard and Claire Heiser Monsen.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Olen “Butch” Baxter.
Marilyn was a known as the most selfless person you could ever meet. She put others before herself always. Whether you were a friend or family member, she was more concerned about your needs than hers. Even in her last days, she wanted to make sure that her children were okay and had everything they needed. What an example her life can be to all of those who knew this wonderful woman. She loved her kids and grandkids with everything she had in her. She enjoyed going to the grandkids’ events at school and sporting events. She was very involved in several quilting groups including Chatty Stitchers, Corsicana Quilting Guild, and Tyler Quilting Guild. She helped to make quilts for an organization called Quilts of Valor who provides wounded servicemen with a Freedom Quilt and also donated fabric pieces to make pillow case dresses for children in orphanages through overseas missions.
Survivors include her two children who adored her, Scott Baxter and wife Laura, Shelley Kilcrease and husband Kelly. She also leaves behind her grandchildren that were the light of her life, Maddison Smetzer, Kayla Kilcrease, Ashley Eggleston, Garrett Kilcrease, Andrew Eggleston and Ella Baxter, along with numerous extended family members.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given in Marilyn’s name to The Cure Starts Now Foundation, whose purpose is to fund research for brain cancers affecting children. Donate and learn more here.
The family would like to invite you to a Celebration of Life that will be held on Monday, April 30, 2018 at 4 p.m. at Autry’s Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home in Athens.
