Funeral services are scheduled for Joyce Grubbs, 63, of Athens, Texas at 11 a.m. Friday, July 3, 2015 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens with Bro. Scotty Short officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Athens.
Mrs. Grubbs went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 in Tyler, Texas after a very lengthy battle with kidney disease.
Joyce Elaine Bearden Grubbs was born September 28, 1951 in Athens, Texas to Jimmy Bearden and Betty Jane Pickle Bearden. She was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Blackjack Community. She loved camping, playing dominoes and cards but her true love was her family. Ninny was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister who will be greatly missed by all she knew and loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister Jimmie Nell Bearden.
She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years Ernest Grubbs Sr. of Athens; two children, Ernest Grubbs Jr. and wife Birgit of Athens, Amanda DeShazo and husband Richard of Athens; three sisters, Cozette Carroll of Athens, Norma Smith of Malakoff, Peggy Allbright of Malakoff; one brother Jimmy Bearden and wife Lucy of Carlsbad, New Mexico; eight grandchildren, Malorie Barker and husband Tacameo, Mayce Grubbs, Jessica Dennis, Justin Sellers, Megan Sellers, Brooke DeShazo, Baylee DeShazo, Blaine DeShazo and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, July 2, 2015 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens, Texas.
