Funeral services for Joy Brown, age 84 of Murchison are scheduled for 1 p.m., Saturday, October 21, 2017 at First Baptist Church of Murchison with Bro. Bryan Adair officiating. Interment will be in the Red Hill Cemetery east of Murchison.
Mrs. Brown passed away Wednesday October 18, 2017 at her home in Murchison. She was born on August 1, 1933 to Conley and Frankie Scott of the Black Jack Community in Henderson County. Joy was a Christian and a member of the First Baptist Church of Murchison. Where she served as a Sunday School teacher and church clerk, treasurer, sang in the choir and was the church custodian for many years. Joy was a graduate of Brownsboro High School. It was there where she met the love of her life, Thomas Brown. They married in 1950. They settled in Murchison in 1952 and lived in the same house on Hwy 31 for 61 years. She was a loving mother of four daughters. She was a very skilled seamstress, cook, and loved serving others.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband and soulmate of 62 years, Thomas Brown; a sister, Sue Stephens.
She is survived by her four daughters, Carol Perdue of Murchison, Becky Reagan and husband Danny of Chandler, Tomye Dan Adair and husband Bryan of Nashville, AR, and Regina Tucker and husband Andy of Chandler. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; her brother Frank Skeet Scott of Black Jack; sisters, Judy Parker of Black Jack, Lena Tyler of Richardson, Texas, Linda Tarkington and husband Red, of Tool, Texas, Mary Ann Koch and husband Tom of Odessa, Texas; one sister-in-law Opal Jordan of Round Rock, Texas.
For the last year, Mrs. Brown was well taken care of in her home by her favorite nurse Alice Gracey and nurse’s aide Helen Salguero-Najarro with the Hospice of East Texas. Personal caretaker, Carol Yarbrough AKA Miss Rose. She became her beloved friend during this time.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Hospice of East Texas.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Wes Perdue, Zac Reagan, Josh Adair, Jase Bray, Jared Bray and her brother, Frank Scott.
Visitation will be Friday, October 20, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Murchison. Autry’s Carroll-Lehr of Athens is in charge of arrangements.
