Funeral services for John Wayne Coalson, 75 of Athens are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, July 27, 2015 at Central Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Park.
Mr. Coalson went home to be with the Lord July 23, 2015.
He was born December 2, 1939 in Anderson County to Joe and Icy Coalson. He was Wayne to most and grew up in the Montalba community before joining the United States Army. Wayne proudly served twenty six years before being honorably discharged. After retiring Wayne went to work for Pilgrim’s Pride Corporation. He then retired after 19 years of service.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife of 51 years Shirley Arnold Coalson and daughter Cristin Pongrac Taylor.
Survivors include his granddaughters Elizabeth Roberts and husband Tony of Athens, Rebekah Pongrac of Northlake, great grandchildren Aden, Sean and Brielle Roberts of Athens.
Pallbearers will be Tony Roberts, Andy Arnold, Jack Murray, Donald Arnold, Jason Murray, Jimmy Fitzgerald, Robert Williams.
Visitation for family and friends will be 3-5 p.m. Sunday at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home.
