James Wesley Dozier, 77, of Athens, passed away to his heavenly home on October 10, 2017. He was born on January 25, 1940 to Joseph Wesley Dozier and Vecretta Juanita Ward.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Billy Edward Dozier.
James graduated from Athens High School in 1958. He served his country in the US Navy from 1958 to 1960. He was a deacon and faithful member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church of the Black Jack Community. James owned and operated Piggy’s BBQ in Murchison from 1991-2009.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Loretta Dozier; his daughters, Julie Benton and husband Donald, and Jamie Dozier; grandchildren, Brynne Owen and husband John, Adam Benton, Kayla Benton, and Wesley Benton; great-grandkids, Kenzi, Beckett and Jensen Owen; sister, Mary Meyer; and sister-in-law, Valle Dozier. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be Donald Benton, Wesley Benton, Adam Benton, Kenny Edwards, Dan Monus, John Owen, Beckett Owen, Brandon Steed and David Benton.
Visitation will be held at Autrys Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home on Friday October 13, 2017 at 2 p.m. Graveside will follow at 3 p.m. at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Athens.
