Funeral services for James Rogers, 90, of Athens, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 18, 2014 at the Fellowship Baptist Church in Athens with Bro. Mike Dean officiating. Interment will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 21, 2014 at the DFW National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas.
Mr. Rogers went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 in Tyler, Texas.
James Edward Rogers was born March 20, 1924 in Wolf City, Texas the son of James Berry Rogers and Zera Hazel Ferguson Rogers. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Athens. He was a dedicated Mason of Lodge #441 in Garland, Texas and also an active Shriner proud of his service to the Children of Texas and all over the world. James was an avid outdoorsman and hunter, spending his most memorable times hunting elk in Colorado. He was a loving, hardworking family man who will be missed by all that knew him.
James is preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Faye Rogers of Athens, Texas; two daughters, Robin Redd-Johnston and husband Glen of Red Oak, Texas, Kim Reese of Dallas, Texas; one son, Michael Rogers and wife Linda of Paris, Texas; two sisters, Ruth Eller Bruner and Wynona Vail both of Commerce, Texas; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 18, 2014 from 1-2 p.m. at the Fellowship Baptist Church in Athens.
