Graveside services for James Parker, 90, of Athens are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, May 10, 2018 at the Athens Cemetery with the Rev. Lynette Solomon officiating. Services are under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens.
Mr. Parker passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2018 in Athens.
James Ivean Parker was born September 2, 1927 in Cushing, Texas the son of Kinchen LeGrande Parker and Aurelia Susan Levonia Neel Parker. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and enjoyed fishing and spending time in the outdoors. James was a self-employed carpenter who loved to build things and tinker around with wood. He was very out-going and enjoyed his time at Oakwood making friends. Paw Paw enjoyed spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife Helen Joyce Boyette Parker and numerous brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his two daughters, Freda Voelker and husband Troy of Austin, Felecia Cain and husband John of Athens; five grandchildren, Ryan Lavoie, Camille Barnes and husband Kelly, Coleman Cain and wife Luba, Noah Voelker, Nik Voelker; three great-grandchildren, Daniel Cain, Elina Cain, Mary Elizabeth Barnes; siblings Kodell Parker, Dorothy Hurta; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and a very special Grand Dog Brownie.
