Helen Oleta Cook Chambers was born in Eustace, Texas on December 30, 1922 and passed away on January 15, 2018 in Athens, Texas. Her parents were George Joyce Cook and Lillie Merle Melton Cook, pioneer settlers who established some of the first businesses in Eustace.
She married William Lawrence (Bill) Chambers in 1943 while he was stationed in Lubbock, Texas.
She worked as administrative assistant to the Director of Learning Resources at Trinity Valley Community College, and retired January 20, 1989 with 20 years of service. Not one to be idle, after retirement, she volunteered for the Henderson County Humane Society for fourteen years for the benefit of the Athens Animal Shelter.
She was preceded in death by her brothers George, Joe, Hilbert, Oscar and infant brother Charles; two sisters Joyce and Ruth; and grandson Jeff Chambers.
Survivors include, Jimmy Chambers, Candy Dyson (Carroll), Cindy Scott (Mark), and Grandchildren Kim Esquibel, Jana Roach (Tanner), Elliott Scott (Emily) and Pate Scott. Great-grandchildren Steven Esquibel, Bryer and Weston Scott, and Beckett and Caplin Roach.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 19, 2018 at Autry’s Carroll-Lehr Funeral home from 1-2 p.m., with funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. Arrangements by Autry’s Carroll-Lehr funeral home.
