Funeral services for Gerald King 82, Athens have been scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Wednesday September 20, 2017 at Autry’s Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Erick Graham officiating.
Burial will follow at Zion Hill Cemetery.
Mr. King passed away Friday evening in Athens.
He was born August 2, 1935 in Malakoff to the late Evans David and Gladys Marie Angel King. He was a longtime resident of Athens. He was a truck driver and worked for Curtis Mathes and Harvey Industries for numerous years. He then became an Independent operator for eight years prior to his retirement. He enjoyed being outside and loved to tend to his cows. He will be missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Bonnie who passed away in 2003 and one sister; Wanda Sims.
Survivors include his sons David Mark King and wife Kathy, Athens, Jody Shane King and wife Melanie, Athens, grandchildren; Justin Wayne King and wife Julia, Athens, Lacy Byrd, J.D. Byrd, Cody Byrd, Elisabeth King, all of Athens, great-grandchildren; Peyton Bonnie King and Madison Avery King, both of Athens and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are John Knight, Cody Byrd, J.D. Byrd, Kyle Sims, Brandon Hurst and Phillip Sims. Honorary pallbearers will be Justin Wayne King and Elisabeth King.
Visitation for family and friends will be Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
