Gareth (Gary) David Chasey was born in Rochester, New York November 26, 1929, he died in Athens, Texas on July 2, 2016.
He is survived by his wife Sharon, sons David Chasey and his wife Cindy, Pete Chasey and his wife Claudia, his daughter Barbara Bernard and granddaughters Jennifer Regian, her husband Will, great grandsons Liam and Lucas Regian, granddaughters Nicole Chasey and Victoria Chasey. Services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, Athens on July 15, 2016 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Woody Meredith officiating.
His family lived in the Rochester and Finger Lakes Region of New York State during the time he was growing up. He attended the University of Rochester, earning a BS with a major in Accounting. He was employed as an Accountant and Internal Auditor for several years. He made a career change to Financial Services, earning his Chartered Life Underwriter and Chartered Financial Planner designations.
Gary is an Eagle Scout. While living in Dallas Gary was involved with Boy Scout leadership training, Golden Acorn for boys and Wood Badge for adults. He was District Chairman and Committee Chairman for North Trail District. He served as Training Chairman for Circle Ten Council. For his many years of service to the Scouts he was awarded the Silver Beaver.
After “retiring” to Athens, he became involved in Labor of Love, serving as a Project Manager, President and Vice President. He was a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) processing 32 cases and improving the lives of 70 children. He was serving on the Board of Labor of Love and The Disciples Clinic of Athens. In 2008 the Athens Chamber of Commerce presented Gary with the Athens Citizen of the Year Award.
Gary is an Elder of the First Presbyterian Church and he taught Sunday School there for over 15 years.
