Funeral services for Doris Gardenhire, 78, of Athens, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015 at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens with Bro. Frank Upchurch officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park.
Doris passed away on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015 in Athens.
Doris Sue Hardin Gardenhire was born Oct. 30, 1937 in Weatherford, Texas the daughter of James Roy Hardin and Lillian Irene Campbell Hardin. She was an active volunteer at ETMC Auxiliary and wrote a weekly report for the Athens Review. Doris loved playing piano, estate sales and being creative. Doris claims she wasn’t talented but if you have heard her play the piano, if you have one of her ceramic pieces or some Indian jewelry, if you have received one of her handmade cards you know otherwise. She was a teacher for over 30 years, teaching at Athens High School, Trinidad High School, Henderson County Junior College, and TVCC. Doris was an admirer of beautiful things such as Chihuly glass, Greek artifacts, Art, and the Piano. Thanks to her boys she was able to travel to Norway, Panama, New York, her favorite Hawaii and traveled to Greece on her own. Doris was a loving mother, and grandmother who will be missed by all she knew and loved.
She is preceded in death by her parents and one sister Helen Hardin Flippo.
Doris is survived by her three sons Brian K Gardenhire and wife Elizabeth of Dallas, Rick L. Gardenhire of Athens, Paul David Gardenhire of Enterprise, Alabama; three grandchildren James Roy Gardenhire, George Gardenhire, and Jesse Aaron Gardenhire.
Serving as pallbearers will be Roy Gardenhire, George Gardenhire, Jesse Gardenhire, Royce Norris, and Jeremy Norris.
Visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015 at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.
