Danny Lee Hobbs, Sr, age 72, went to be with the Lord on December 31, 2018, while at his home in Payne Springs, Texas.
Danny was born November 23, 1946 to Ernest and Winnie Hobbs. He grew up in Palmer, Texas. Danny served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War aboard the USS Kepler. He married Joy Sarratt in 1969. Danny worked for several years in the air conditioning and freight industry. He then started his own business, Hobbs Pest Management, in 1985. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Gun Barrel City and faithfully brought donuts to church on Sunday mornings.
Danny was known for his joking and cutting up. He loved spending time outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and got a big kick out of watching the deer, hogs, and other wildlife on his property. Danny also enjoyed cooking and high among his many specialties were his fried fish and pinto beans. His recipes were never exactly the same, since he had such a good time changing up his ingredients from day to day, depending on whatever he happened to have on hand.
Danny is survived by Joy Hobbs; his son-in-law and daughter, Julian and Brenda Ochoa of Malakoff; his son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Jennifer Hobbs of Eustace; his grandchildren, Stephanie Bys, Tiffany Wilson, Laney Hobbs, and Keaton Hobbs; as well as several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Donny Thomas.
Visitation will be Friday, January 4 at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. His funeral service will be Saturday, January 5 at First Baptist Church of Gun Barrel City at 10:00 AM, with Bro. Byron Jones officiating.
Our Paw Paw is dearly loved and will be greatly missed. We take much comfort knowing that he is smiling, laughing, and cutting up in heaven with Jesus.
