Carl Leland Loper, age 80, of Athens passed away on March 25, 2018. He was born on May 19, 1937, to Joe and Elsie Alexander Loper.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 60 years, Nelda Jean Loper in November of 2017; his brothers, Joe Loper and Ray Loper.
Carl worked for many years in the maintenance department for Braniff Air Base. He loved mechanical things and “tinkering” with fixing things. He loved the outdoors, working with his cows, fishing, and camping. He was a dedicated member of Bethel Christian Church where he loved his church family. He loved his children and adored his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed, but the family knows that he is not hurting anymore, and he is with his sweet Nelda.
Survivors include his son, Ronnie Loper and wife Angela; his brothers, Doyle Loper and wife Barbara, and Terry Loper; his grandchildren, Bryan Loper, and wife Katherine; and Jessica Loper; his great-grandchildren, Khloie Loper, and Blaize Loper; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to invite you to a visitation at Bethel Christian Church on Friday, March 30, 2018 at 1 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m. with Rev. Mike Baldwin officiating. Burial to follow at Shelby Chapel Cemetery in Athens. Arrangements by Autry’s Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home.
