Funeral Services for Brenda Mills Smith, 64, of Athens are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, June 8, 2017 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home with interment following at Rome Cemetery near Athens. Bro. Gene Bishop and Chief Buddy Hill will be officiating the services.
Brenda went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 4, 2017 in Tyler.
Brenda Kay Mills Smith was born May 11, 1953 in Athens, Texas the daughter of Irvin Edward Mills Jr. and Lucille Boyd Mills. She spent her working career as a dispatcher serving emergency services for over 40 years; 10 years with the Henderson County Sheriff’s office, over 26 years with the East Texas EMS, 1 year with the Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office and the Athens Police Department for 3 years. Her love and dedication to the men and women in these communities is evident in the outpouring of love and support she and her family received during her sickness and beyond. Her hobbies included cooking and going to garage sales. “Nan” was a loving mother, sister and grandmother who will be greatly missed by all those that she touched.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her ex-husband Ernest Smith and two brothers, Jerry Irvin Smith and David Bryan Mills.
She is survived by her children, Laura Wiggins and husband Tony of Van, Rickey Smith of Brownsboro; one brother Eddie Don Mills and wife Teresa of Albany, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Kyle Wiggins and wife Danielle, Shelby Smith and fiancé Cody Mayfield, Toby Smith; four great grandchildren, Easton Wiggins, Kaden Mayfield, Braxton Wiggins, Paisley Wiggins and Baby Mayfield on the way.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Garza, Tres Winn, David Rhoads, Jonathan Hutchison, James Graham and James Cook.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 7, 2017 from 7-9 p.m. at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens.
