Bobby F. Abernathy died Saturday, September 30, 2017 at age 84. He was born in Athens, Texas on June 25, 1933.
Bob attended Henderson County Junior College and received an award in 1980 for outstanding Ex-Student. He graduated from the University of Texas in 1955 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering, and was a loyal Longhorn. He spent his entire working career in the oil business, beginning in Brownfield, Texas with Stanolind, working at Amoco Petroleum for 17 years, five of those in Calgary, Can. He also worked at Quasar Petroleum and Champlin Petroleum before forming his own company with his brother, Dan. He was a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and a past president of the Petroleum club.
After retirement, he enjoyed working on Genealogy and gardening, but mostly looked forward to time with his children and grand-children. Bob enjoyed and had a real heart for the state of Texas.
He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and two sisters.
He is survived by wife, Donna; daughter, Julie Abernathy of Kerrville, Texas; son Scott Abernathy and wife Sara; grandchildren, Sadie and Dylan Abernathy of Minneapolis, MN; one brother, Herbert Abernathy of Cumby and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the care givers and the entire staff, along with the hospice group of Silverado Assisted Living in Ft. Worth, for their love and compassion for Bob during his time there.
Visitation will be held at Autry’s Carroll-Lehr Funeral home on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 from 1-2 p.m. Graveside service will follow at Carroll Springs Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.
