Bob passed away on August 7, 2014 in his home in Star Harbor.

He was born on June 22, 1941 in Columbus, Georgia to Rufus and Maudine Burns. Soon after his birth, the family moved to Mercedes, Texas. Bob excelled on the high school football field and upon graduation, attended Texas Tech University, graduating with a degree in Business Administration in 1964. For 32 years he worked in various executive positions as a bank examiner for the Comptroller of the Currency and retired in 1996.

Upon his retirement, Bob settled with his family in Star Harbor, Texas where he and his wife Rosemary enjoyed living on the lake. He remained active, volunteering for the East Texas Arboretum, Keep Texas Beautiful and was a member of the Malakoff Rotary club.

But Bob’s real love was cooking. There was rarely a night that he wasn’t preparing a meal for his family. The kitchen was his favorite place and his many friends and family will miss the meals he created there.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus and Maudine and his wonderful daughter Erin. He is survived by his wife Rosemary, son Mike and daughter-in-law Molly, his grandson Layne, his brother Charlie Burns and sister in law, Janice, his brother in laws Jim Pitts, John Pitts and sister in law Mary Bain. He also had many nieces and nephews that loved him.

Donations in Bob’s memory can be made to the East Texas Medical Foundation at PO Box 6400, Tyler Texas 75701.

  4. Dear Rosemary,
Know you will miss Bob as I do my Tommie, who passed in 2013. We always looked forward to our visits with the two of you when attending the Texas Healthcare Trustee events around our great State, during past eight years.
Please tell your brother Jim, “hello”. know that he lost his spouse a few years ago and he knows what you are going through. May God “hold” your family “up”, during the next difficult days… Warmest Personal Regards, The Samuels Family
