Obituary: Bernie Olen Foster

Bernie Olen Foster, age 89, of Athens, Texas passed away on March 27, 2018. He was born on September 30, 1928 in Henderson County to William and Kate (Hanna) Foster.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Dorothy (Pryor) Foster; his brothers Clarence, Weldon, Claude, J.W. and Melvin; his sisters Ala Mae, Dorothy, Golden and Laverne; and his son-in-law, Tom Siegrist.

Bernie was a loyal and loving man, and a very hard worker. He worked for many years at Gibson’s Store, Piggly Wiggly, and at Curtis Mathis of Athens. He was deacon and very active in the church throughout his life, serving as the music leader when his children were young. He was most recently was a member of Central Baptist Church. He was loved by many who knew him. He loved his children with his whole heart, and adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bernie will be greatly missed.

He is survived by one son, Michael Foster and wife Kathy; one daughter, Shelly Siegrist; grandchildren, Krystal West and husband Cody, Stephanie Siegrist, Tommy Siegrist, and wife Heather, Brandi Jones and husband Richie; great-grandchildren, Jewel Jones, Kie Burns, Gavin Siegrist, Kainnen Jones, Zainnen Jones, Kaston West, and Thomas Siegrist; Sister in law, Millie (Pryor) Kimrey, and husband Orville, Sister in law, Gloria Pryor, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 30, 2018 at Autry’s Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 31, 2018 in the funeral home chapel. Burial to follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park of Athens.
