Barbara Ann Stewart born October 4, 1938 entered God’s kingdom on March 19, 2018.
Surrounded by family, Barbara passed on after an illness. She lived and participated actively in the Texas communities of Dallas, Corpus Christi,
Bryan, Denton, as well as Westport, Connecticut. Barbara was born in Laredo, Texas to Clyde and Cynthia Hall Wharton. She attended Texas Women’s University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Speech Therapy. She was a speech therapist and a teacher of the deaf. While living in Dallas, Barbara and her sister founded “The Professional Nanny of Dallas,” providing high quality childcare for working parents.
Barbara was married to James A Stewart in 1965. Together they participated in many joint ventures, which included three children and numerous business ventures. They traveled the world; her favorite memory was floating in a balloon over Africa with wild life running below. Another passion was contributing to many charities and families in need. A charity close to her heart was The Family Peace Project in Athens. In a moment of insanity, she and Jim even produced the Broadway Musical, “Urban Cowboy” together!
Barbara had many interests and gifts. An art enthusiast and sculptor, she had beautiful gardens filled with flowers, sculptures and love. Other
interests included card games, plays, and time with children, grandchildren and friends.
Most importantly, Barbara was a devoted wife to her husband of 52 years, and a loving mother and grandmother, showering them with her good advice and valued time.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Cynthia and Clyde Wharton, sister, Mary Francis Moore, brother Clyde Wharton and her beloved dog Joey.
Survived by her husband, James A Stewart; daughter, Cindy White and husband, Sims; son, Andrew Stewart and wife, Laura; and daughter,
Ginger Zara and husband, Bryan; her grandchildren, Emily White, James White, Ava Stewart, Jacob Zara, and Ian Zara and her sweet puppy “Gracie”.
The family will be having a Celebration of Life at their sculpture garden on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 2 p.m.
Local arrangements by Autry’s Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home of Athens.
