Maxine S. Geddie, 83, Athens passed peacefully from this world January 30, 2014 at her home surrounded by family after a brief but valiant battle against lung cancer.
Her service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, February 3, 2014 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Paul Sherwood, Rev. Lynette Solomon and Dr. Rev. Bill McNatt officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Park under the direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home.
She was born December 10, 1930 in Athens to the late John C. Smith and Minnie Carroll Smith and was the youngest of four daughters. Maxine attended Athens High School and graduated from Henderson County Junior College in 1966 as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. She married Thomas E. Geddie February 18, 1967 and enjoyed a wonderful 47 years of marriage. After getting married, she was right where she wanted to be as a stay at home mom and wife. Her family was the most important thing to her and she loved spending time with them. Her grandchildren were perfect in her eyes and brought her an enormous amount of happiness. She was a member of East Texas Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary 25 years and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #177.
She is survived by her husband Thomas E. Geddie, Sr., children Tommy Geddie and wife Veronica, daughter Sherry Geddie Baldwin, grandchildren Allissa Geddie, Emily Baldwin, John Baldwin, Sissy Geddie Reed and husband Ward, Teddy Geddie, Tiffanie Geddie, all of Athens, Susan Geddie Holt and husband Rich, Naples, Florida; stepgrandsons Brian and Colton.
Serving as pallbearers are Don Geddie, Steve Grant, Will Davies, Marshall Endsley, Dr. Ken Lemmon, Harold Rash.
Honorary pallbearers are the members of Friendship Sunday School class at First Presbyterian Church.
Visitation for family and friends will be 4-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
