CCAR press release
The Cedar Creek Amateur Radio Club has someone you’ll want to meet. And Hear!
The Jan. 9 meeting features and in-person appearance by the new ARRL Section manager, Nancy McCain, K5NLM.
She will update the club on the latest happenings in ham radio and what is looming in this new year.
She has an amazing background starting with failing her first attempt at passing a ham radio exam. She later passed the technician exam. And explains how she became so involved in emergency communications.
“Then, there was 9-11. My world changed, being a retired paramedic (MedStar, et al 21 years), coming from a firefighting family and working at that time for American Airlines. My husband and I became active locally. After he passed away in 2006 I looked at all that equipment I helped picked out and decided that I’d better upgrade my ham radio license to get my money’s worth.
“As a regular storm spotter, the police knew which hill I would be on top of and usually joined me for up to date information. I was also active with MRC, CERT, Citizens Patrol and Citizen Police Academy Alumni Assoc. In Ft W CERT, Team Leader for East Division and volunteer instructor. I have attended CERT TTT and FEMA Wide Area Search training programs, along with the mandatory ICS 100, 200, 300,400, 700, 800 and that is the very short list.”
Meet this amazing woman and share your interest in technology and communications.
The meeting will be held Saturday, Jan. 9, at the Mabank Cafe on Highway 198 in Mabank. The club meets the second Saturday of each month there. The meeting starts at 9 a.m., but many come early for an impressive breakfast buffet. Anyone interested in technology is welcome.
