Angelica Navarro is a difference maker for the softball team at Trinity Valley Community College. She is also the Student-Athlete of the Month.
Navarro, a sophomore from Woodland, Cal., received the award Monday afternoon at the final Cardinal Pride Luncheon of the 2016 spring semester, held at Cotton Patch.
“Angelica has not only been a tremendous ballplayer on the field for our team, but off the field she carries the team with her leadership,” Lady Cardinal head coach Ashley Johnston said. “She impacts everyone she comes in contact with and has made me a better coach and person.”
Navarro, in her second season as the starting shortstop and lead-off hitter for the Lady Cardinals, is hitting .459 on the season and .444 in conference play.
“She is the sparkplug for us,” Johnston said. “She always gets the job done and coming through for her team.”
Also, new look Cardinal cheer coach Khris Franklin recapped last week’s competition in Daytona Beach, Fla., which saw the Cardinal cheerleaders claim their 10th national team title and 20th overall for the college.
The Cardinal cheerleaders were also awarded the grand championship for having outscored all colleges/universities in all divisions.
Cardinal cheerleaders T.J. Ollison and Sabrina Garcia also brought home hardware, claiming first place in Partner Stunt competition.
