The TVCC Foundation announced Thursday, Jan. 21, that the Ginger Murchison Foundation has donated $25,000 to institute the Pam Burton Endowed General Scholarship Fund at Trinity Valley Community College. Burton, who retired Dec. 31, 2015, was honored for her 36 years of service to the city of Athens, including 19 years as city administrator.

Former Athens Mayor and TVCC Vice President of Instruction Dr. Jerry King and President Dr. Glendon Forgey both praised Burton for her service to Athens and listed numerous projects that were completed under her direction. “Pam always made the decision that would most benefit the City of Athens, not the one that would most benefit one party or another,” said Dr. King.

TVCC Vice President of Institutional Advancement and TVCC Foundation Director Kristen Bennett said, “The Burton scholarship will not be designated for any particular type of student or program, so that it may benefit the greatest number of students in the future.”

Burton stated that she was pleased to have the scholarship named for her and thanked the Murchison Foundation for the honor.
