Multiple agencies take part in ‘Knock and Talk’ sex offender compliance check

On Wednesday, May 25, Department of Public Safety (DPS) Criminal Investigations Division agents, along with the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office, Smith County Sheriff’s Office, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, Athens Police Department, Palestine Police Department, Henderson Police Department, Tyler Police Department, Winnsboro Police Department, Attorney General agents and the United States Marshal Service conducted a “knock and talk” sex offender compliance check in Henderson County.

The goal of the operation is to verify the offender is complying with the law set forth in Chapter 62 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. This law requires adult and juvenile sex offenders to register with the local law enforcement agency in the city or county where they reside.

Sex offender registration involves the sex offender providing the local law enforcement authority with information, including, but is not limited to, the sex offender’s name and residential address, a color photograph, and information on the offender’s registering offense. Registered sex offenders are required to periodically report to the local law enforcement authority to verify the accuracy of the registration information and to promptly report certain changes in the information when those changes occur. They can also have certain stipulations put upon them for example they may not be allowed to go to a certain area or they are not allowed to visit online pornography websites like fuckedtube xxx as all pornography is banned for them. A sex offender who fails to comply with any registration requirement is subject to felony prosecution.
