District Attorney’s Office press release

On Friday, September 2, Charles Dale Stegall, 36, formerly of Mesquite, was sentenced to 40 years in prison for five counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child. Stegall pled guilty to the five counts on June 29. He remained in the Henderson County Jail after his guilty plea while awaiting a sentencing hearing.

Assistant District Attorney Nancy Rumar prosecuted the case on behalf of Scott McKee’s District Attorney’s Office. Stegall was sentenced in the 173rd Judicial District Court by Judge Dan Moore after the day-long sentencing hearing.

Stegall was indicted by a Henderson Grand Jury after an investigation by retired Henderson County Sheriff’s Investigator Nick Webb. Webb began the investigation after an outcry was made by Stegall’s victim to her mother. The victim’s mother reported the outcry to the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office.

According to testimony and witness statements, the assaults occurred when the victim was between the ages of four and seven. Assistant D.A. Rumar indicated that this was one of the most emotional sentencing hearings she has experienced in her 18 years of prosecuting sexual assault cases. “These cases tear families apart” said Rumar.

District Attorney Scott McKee was pleased with the sentence and the work by his prosecutors and the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office. “We have made the prosecution of these crimes a priority over the past eight years” said McKee. “The children in our community deserve the protection of law enforcement and the criminal justice system.”

  1. Between the ages of 4 and 7? That poor baby! Times like these are when the Old Testament would come in real handy. Prayers for the family and child.
