McKinney will not run for sixth term

Henderson County Precinct 2 Commissioner Wade McKinney announced this morning that he will not run for a sixth term.

“Through five terms, I have had the privilege to work with four different County Judges, nine County Commissioners, five County Sheriffs, and many others. There are enough experiences from this endeavor to fill two life times with both memories and lessons,” McKinney wrote in a letter released to media this morning.

By the time his current term ends, McKinney will have served as Pct. 2 Commissioner for 20 years. He finishes as the longest serving commissioner in county history. Judge Winston Reagan also served 20 years on the court.

On November 3rd, 1998, I was elected Commissioner, Precinct Two, for Henderson County and almost nineteen years later, I find it difficult to believe that I won. It was a night I will never forget and I will always be grateful to the citizens of Precinct Two.

I have had the opportunity to learn a great deal from many wonderful people over the years with Henderson County. Through five terms, I have had the privilege to work with four different County Judges, nine County Commissioners, five County Sheriffs, and many others. There are enough experiences from this endeavor to fill two life times with both memories and lessons.

The challenges Henderson County has faced during my tenure have been numerous. These challenges have ranged from natural disasters, building and infrastructure needs, on to economic crisis. I am proud to say that Henderson County faced each one with resolve and our county’s stability through these challenges is looked to by others as an example of stewardship.

I have been a resident of Precinct Two for most of my life and I am proud to call it my home. But I have come to believe that it is time to explore new challenges and look for new opportunities outside of home. My hope is to use the benefits of my experience as a Henderson County Commissioner to provide stability and leadership for future endeavors. I am announcing that I will not seek a Sixth Term as Henderson County, Commissioner, Precinct Two.
I wish to thank my wife and family for their support these many years. Their understanding of the requirements of public service have allowed me the opportunity to better serve.

I could not have performed in office this long without having the best staff. They are truly the ones that day in and day out make it all happen. I appreciate each one of these fine people, past and present, for their dedication and hard work.

To the citizens of Henderson County, I say thank you for your support and your understanding. I look forward to the future and to new opportunities to serve our community. It has been my honor to represent you all and to serve you for these 20 years in office.

Sincerely,

Wade McKinney
Commissioner, Precinct Two
Henderson County, Texas
