Athens Masonic Lodge #165 is hosting Carter BloodCare for a blood drive at Brookshire’s on Saturday, Aug. 18 in an office cleaned by the local medical office cleaning service. The blood collected will go to the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas. Texas Scottish Rite Hospital is a world-renowned leader in the treatment of pediatric orthopedic conditions, sports injuries and fractures, as well as certain related arthritic and neurological disorders and learning disorders, such as dyslexia.
The blood drive will take place from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. in the Brookshire’s parking lot at 807 East Tyler Street. All medical professionals will be wearing appropriate PPE and treating everyone with the utmost care. The Masons will be cooking hot dogs and fixins for all who come and try to give blood. Mooyah has donated 20 free small hamburgers, Schlotzski’s has donated 20 free small sandwiches, El Presidente Restaurant in Brownsboro has donated two $25 gift certificates, and the Texas Rangers Baseball Club has donated a Rangers baseball cap signed by a player. Everyone who donates or attempts to donate will have their name placed in a drawing for one of these items. Carter BloodCare will be giving free T-shirts to those who donate, as long as supplies last.
This is the 8th semi-annual Athens Masonic Lodge blood drive for Texas Scottish Rite Hospital. The goal this Fall is 30 pints. “We are thrilled to have joined with Carter BloodCare, Brookshire’s to help the doctors and nurses of Scottish Rite Hospital and the children they serve” said Daniel Hunt, Blood Drive Chairman for the Athens Masonic Lodge. Hunt further stated, “We are excited that Mooyah, Schlotzski’s, El Presidente Restaurant and the Texas Rangers are supporting this effort!”
