State Rep. Lance Gooden formally filed this week with the Republican Party of Texas to seek a third term in the Texas House. Gooden, who has earned wide recognition as one of the state’s rising conservative leaders, said he is proud of the results of the 83rd session of the Texas Legislature and looks forward to continuing his service.

“This was another successful session for the people of Henderson and Kaufman counties,” Gooden said. “We passed a balanced budget that protected the Rainy Day Fund and cut $1.36 billion in taxes to ensure Texas maintains a friendly climate for job creation. We stood our ground against Obamacare by opposing Medicaid expansion in the state, and we passed a series of groundbreaking pieces of legislation to protect life, the second amendment, religious freedom and many other issues that we conservatives hold dear.”

Because of Gooden’s efforts on the floor of the House of Representatives, he received a 98 percent conservative rating from the Texas Eagle Forum and was named one of the Top 20 members of the House by the Young Conservatives of Texas. He was also listed in the Top 20 members of the House by Empower Texans for his votes on core budget and free enterprise issues.

Although he typically does not endorse other candidates, Kaufman County Sheriff David Byrnes said he’s proud to stand with Gooden because of the results he has delivered for the people of House District 4.

“Lance is a rare breed in politics today, someone who is effective at passing legislation, but also someone who is principled and dedicated to standing strong for our values,” Byrnes said. “In just two terms in office, he has managed to deliver on campaign promises that other politicians have been making for years. The citizens of this district are fortunate to have such a strong, conservative leader working for us.”

The 2014 Republican Primary election will be held on Tuesday, March 4. For a regularly updated list of endorsements and more detailed information on the 83rd legislative session, please visit www.LanceGooden.com.
