TVCC press release
Trinity Valley Community College has a new radio home.
The college announced today Henderson County-based radio station KCKL (95.9 FM) will begin broadcasting its football games this fall. The station will also broadcast a select number of women’s and men’s basketball games and possibly other sports.
The announcement ends a decade-long partnership with Palestine radio station KYYK (98.3 FM).
“We have enjoyed our association with KYYK and are especially appreciative of the dedication of Gary Richards (sports director) to make sure our teams were covered and our student athletes received recognition,” said TVCC Sports Information Officer Benny Rogers.
“At the same time, we are very excited to now team up with KCKL, which is making the commitment to give us a radio presence and to highlight not just what our athletic teams are accomplishing, but also the many outstanding accomplishments of our faculty and students,” Rogers said.
The college has a history with KCKL. The station broadcast football games through the 2003 season and also carried feeds of national tournament basketball games 1994-99.
“This marks a great day for both institutions — TVCC and KCKL — and most particularly for our students and our community,” said KCKL station owner David Gates. “TVCC is an organization in which we can all take particular pride.
“KCKL is very proud to showcase the excellent educational opportunities, athletic achievements and scholastic advances that have made TVCC the wonderful, well-rounded educational experience it is today.”
KCKL’s first broadcast will be the TVCC-Iowa Western football game Saturday, Aug. 24 at 6 p.m.
