Teresa Jones-Benson has been added to the 2016 Cardinal Hall of Fame class at Trinity Valley Community College, it was announced Monday.
Jones-Benson was selected for induction in 2011, but was been unable to attend, as well as subsequent years. She will be attendance when the 2016 class is inducted on Saturday, Oct. 22.
Other inductees will be Betsy Coker Anderson, Joe Curl, Todd Fowler, Chris Landry and Lola Reescano.
Jones-Benson was recruited by Curl out of Longview High School after a stellar career. She continued to shine at TVCC, helping the Lady Cardinals to a 61-5 record, which included the school’s first NJCAA championship in 1994.
In four national tournament games that year for Kurt Budke’s squad, Jones-Benson scored 108 points, turning in scoring games of 11, 32, 32 and 33 points. The 33 were in a 104-95 win against Westark in the national title game.
After a three-year hiatus upon leaving the college, Jones-Benson continued her career at East Central Oklahoma University. In just two seasons, she scored 1,469 points and ranks third on the school’s all-time scoring list.
As a junior, she set the Lone Star Conference’s single season scoring record with 836 points – a record that stood for 11 years. Jones-Benson scored in double figures in all 59 points of her ECO career. She also had 17 double-doubles as a junior and 18 as a senior.
Jones-Benson was twice named Most Valuable player in the Lone Star Conference.
In 2007, she was named to the list of top 75 players/coaches in the 75-year history of the LSC.
Jones-Benson is married to former Cardinal football player Darren Benson. They live in the Metroplex with their three sons. She is a probation officer for Dallas County.
