If you attended the Henderson County Livestock Show this week at the Fair Park Complex, you may have noticed some changes to the facility.
In fact, it would have been impossible to miss them.
A brand new, beautfully paved surface surrounds the arena now, replacing the old black top and dirt that was there.
Fairgrounds Manager Jim Bob Warren said work on the parking lot started this past October and was finished in December.
“The fairgrounds bought the material, but all four of the county precincts put in equipment and men to help us lay all that,” Warren said.
According to Warren, the Fair Park Board committed about $200,000 for the material.
But that’s not the only change at the facility. There have been drainage improvements between the main barn and the J.D. Lewis Arena, as well.
That project was finished last month, Warren said.
“Commissioner Ken Geeslin came out and put in the culverts and then a local contractor came in and poured the concrete and we did all the pipe fitting and welding around it,” he said.
The two projects together have made a big difference for the fairgrounds.
“We’re constantly trying to improve this facility and keep up with other facilities,” Warren said. “We’ve put a lot of effort into trying to improve this place and keep drawing people to this facility.”
