After a week’s delay because of rain, the 2015 Walk A Mile in Her Shoes event went off as expected Saturday, June 6, with men taking four laps around the Henderson County Courthouse while wearing red high heel shoes.
Saturday marked the third time the Walk has taken place in the county.
The Walk is a fun event, but with a serious goal: To remind the community of the causes and effects of domestic violence and sexual violence. It is also a fundraiser for the East Texas Crisis Center, which is “dedicated to providing safety, shelter, and education for victims of family violence, sexual assault, and other violent crime.”
The event raised $12,000 for the Crisis Center, according to Director of Outreach Carla Gandy.
Gandy said the Walk A Mile is an international movement to help end sexual violence.
“It is important to raise awareness in our community about victims of domestic violence and sexual assault,” she said. “This is really awesome to see men who are raising money, supporting this cause and walking for those victims.”
Thanks Michael for all you do for the East Texas Crisis Center
