Press release
The Texas Search for Excellence Awards Program is sponsored by the Texas Master Gardener Association (TMGA) with guidance provided by the Texas Master Gardener Coordinator from Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. The purpose of each award is to recognize outstanding Master Gardener projects and programs throughout the State of Texas, and to recognize individual Master Gardeners and Master Gardener Associations for their outstanding contributions within the State of Texas.
This year the Texas Master Gardener Association State Conference was held in Odessa. The Award’s Program was an exciting time for the Henderson County Master Gardener Association. Henderson County Master Gardeners received three awards for the 2013 year:
First Place, Medium Association, Project: South Athens Elementary Children’s Garden: Many thanks are due to Bill and Marie Hancock for all of their hard work planning and coordinating the garden and its volunteers. They were tireless in their efforts. Through their work the children in the school were given weekly lessons in the garden. What a great value to the students, and, through extension, to their families!
Second Place, Medium Association, Education: Year Around Color From Geophytes: This presentation in Chandler was one of our Summer Series Programs. A special thank you goes to Jean Brewton for her excellent presentation and for the sacks of bulbs that all attendees received.
Second Place, Medium Association: Individual Master Gardener, Cherie Tanneberger: This was a great award recognizing a year of exceptional service to our organization. As Vice President during 2013, Cherie coordinated the monthly meeting programs, the four 2013 Summer Series events, our Vegetable Workshop, and multiple booth events. She also wore additional “hats” in 2013: Volunteer Coordinator and Intern Coordinator.
