“There are twenty extremely talented youth in the cast of Legally Blonde, opening at HCPAC this Thursday”, says Executive Director, Marcia Colbert. “These kids have been working very hard for the last seven weeks to make this a fantastic show.”
The story of Elle Woods was first seen on the big screen and became a mega-Hollywood-hit. Translated to the stage, the story remains the same but it is punctuated with snappy songs and dances.
Elle, the most popular girl on the UCLA campus and President of Delta Nu sorority, thinks her boyfriend, Warner, is going to propose but instead he breaks up with her to pursue his law degree at Harvard. Undaunted, Elle manages to get into Harvard as well, determined to show Warner that he has made a mistake and that she is the perfect match for him.
Along the way, Elle must make some difficult decisions regarding her relationships and, ultimately, her goals in life. She perseveres through adversity, showing her classmates and her professors that she is more than just ‘blonde’. She shows courage and determination to succeed without compromising her ethics or her style.
Legally Blonde is the annual Summer Youth Musical presented by HCPAC for twenty-seven consecutive years. The show is sponsored by Dr. Mark A. Roberts, DDS and presented through special permission of Musical Theatre International (MTI).
“Some of our kids started with us when they were just five or six years old and have grown up in our theatre,” states Colbert. “Many have gone on to professional theatrical careers. We give them the tools and the room to grow. They do the rest.”
Performances are August 6, 7, 8, 13, 14, 15 at 7:30 p.m. and August 9 at 2 p.m. Reservations are strongly suggested. Summer Musicals routinely sell out. For reservations call 903-675-3908 or go online to www.hcpac.org.
