HCNotes: Athens applies for grant to recycle glass

During this week’s Athens City Council meeting, council members approved applying for an East Texas Council of Governments Solid Waste Grant.

The grant is worth about $9,000 and will pay for a roll-off receptacle to collect glass for recycling, changing out the receptacle, and for an education piece to be designed by Keep Athens Beautiful.

Athens City Administrator Philip Rodriguez said that Keep Athens Beautiful was an instrumental partner in the grant process.

Keep Athens Beautiful Executive Director Carol Morton said the grant application will be presented later this month.
