District Attorney’s press release
Monica Worthy, 33, of Eustace, was sentenced last week to 10 years in prison for Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver. 3rd Judicial District Court Judge, Mark Calhoon sentenced Worthy after pleading guilty to the charge.
District Attorney Scott McKee and 1st Assistant Mark Hall prosecuted the case.
Worthy was indicted by a Henderson County Grand Jury based on a July 2015 investigation and search warrant executed by the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office.
On July 7, 2015, Investigator Kendell Wellman of the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office began surveillance of a residence at 9110 FM 316, north of Eustace. Wellman had information that narcotics trafficking was being conducted at the residence and was in possession of a search warrant for the residence. During the surveillance, Wellman observed numerous vehicles come and go, none staying longer than 10 minutes. This activity, along with prior information, led him to believe that narcotics were actively being distributed.
During the surveillance, Worthy left the residence at approximately 1:30 a.m. with a male passenger heading south towards Eustace. From his position, Wellman witnessed the vehicle commit two separate traffic violations and stopped the vehicle.
After the vehicle was stopped, Henderson County SWAT officers, led by Captain Bryan Tower, converged on the residence to execute a search warrant.
During the traffic stop, Worthy advised Wellman that she and her passenger were heading to a Park Harbor game room. After a search of Worthy and her passenger, Steven Ray Davis, 20, of Scurry, Worthy consented to a search of her vehicle. In the back seat, Wellman observed a large purse which Worthy stated was hers. Inside the purse, a digital scale and methamphetamine were found.
During a search of the home, SWAT officers and investigators found drug paraphernalia, methamphetamine, numerous clear plastic baggies, and digital scales used in the packaging and sale of narcotics. Officers also found another adult male, Tom Cody Bowden, 26, of Eustace, along with a child. During the search, officers found methamphetamine in Bowden’s pocket.
Both Worthy and Davis were arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to deliver and endangering a child. Bowden was also arrested for possession of a controlled substance.
District Attorney Scott McKee commended Wellman and the officers for their work on the case.
“My office, along with Sheriff Nutt, is committed to rooting out drug dealers, wherever they are, especially those that expose children to the horrors and vile lifestyle of a drug home,” said McKee.
