Summer and camps go hand in hand. After an eight-year hiatus, the Farmpiddler Camps are returning to Athens under the new name Popsicles, Summer Camps for Kids. Teresa DeMay suspended the camps eight years ago when she founded Athens Christian Preparatory Academy, a private school for grades 7-12.
“The Farmpiddler camps were wildly popular” says DeMay. “We would sell-out by mid-April for the entire summer.”
Athens Prep has now adopted all of the Farmpiddler’s old camp formats and will be running 18 different camps this summer for ages 5-13. The educational camps involve very unusual hands-on activities.
“Parents always leave feeling they definitely got their money’s worth. I still have older students (some now in college) who fondly remember what they did in the Farmpiddler camps. We want to bring back that summer memory-making to a new generation,” said DeMay.
Popsicles have so many fun themes to choose from. Sea Safari is a dissection camp that studies the anatomy of aquatic animals. Dissections include a clam, crayfish, squid, starfish, and even a shark! The Lords and Ladies is a study of Medieval times. Campers learn about Chivalry, Heraldry, Art, everyday life, and end the week with a feast at the King’s table. Pirates Ahoy is a camp that learns about ships and navigation with a little Pirate fun thrown in. Pirate camp includes a treasure hunt, pirate booty, and a last day swim party. There are 15 additional camp themes to choose from. Every camp has unique activities that you won’t find any place else. Almost everything is available on the internet these days. You can find any and everything you possibly need, camping furniture is no exception. “We use to have people drive from Dallas to take our camps. Once the word gets out, we know they will be in high demand again,” said DeMay
