DAR hears about Family Peace Project

At the April 20 meeting at the Cedar Creek Library in Seven Points, the Sarah Maples Chapter of DAR heard Estela Parales talk about “The Family Peace Project.” Their main objective is to protect children and women of domestic violence. Victims can be of any age, sex, race, culture, religion, education, employment or marital status. Although both men and women can be abused, most victims are women. Domestic violence and emotional abuse are behaviors used by one person in a relationship to control the other. Partners may be married or not married; heterosexual, gay, or lesbian; living together, separated or dating.

The Family Peace Project, Inc., a 501 (c)3 non-profit faith based organization that works to protect, educate, assist, care and empower victims of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault in Henderson County. They can furnish emergency shelter, 24 hour emergency hotline services and much, much more. If you feel the need for their services call 903-677-9177.

Estela Parales is the Client Services Director and Legal Advocate at the Family Peace Project in Athens. She has over 10 years experience in the field as a legal advocate working with victims through the court system. She has been a member of the Texas Council on Family Violence since 2006 and is a regional representative for Region 6. She is champion for survivors and works tirelessly to help raise awareness on the issues of domestic violence and sexual assault. Ms. Parales is also a reserve officer for the Eustace Police Department.
