The Pride of Malakoff Marching Band earned straight 1st Division ratings at the UIL Regional Marching Contest Wednesday. The band’s performance qualifies it for the Area Marching Contest at Denton Collins Stadium on Oct. 24.
This marks the second straight year the band has advanced to the Area round and is the latest in an outstanding year for the Pride of Malakoff.
The band started the month Oct. 3 by earning a 112 rating and finishing second in its classification at the Mesquite Marching Festival.
Then the Pride of Malakoff had a successful showing at the Sunnyvale Invitational marching contest on Oct. 11. The band placed 2nd overall in prelims in all classifications. It was also awarded best in class drum major and straight 1st division ratings, which qualified them the band for the finals. In finals the Pride of Malakoff finished third overall out of 20 bands in all classes and were barely edged out by Kaufman High School who finished second.
