The computer lab at the Clint W. Murchison Memorial Library in Athens is reserved Saturday, March 29, from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. for the uninsured to enroll in health insurance through the Affordable Care Act Marketplace.
A navigator for the Affordable Care Act from Special Health Resources for Texas, Inc., will be available to answer questions and assist with enrollment. People will need information about current employer based insurance available to them (employer information number (EIN), cost for employee only and cost for family), projected income for 2014, and social security information for entire household.
With the open enrollment period ending at 10:59 p.m. on March 31, time is running out to enroll. Those without health insurance or acceptable alternatives who do not enroll and for whom it is deemed affordable will be accessed a personal responsibility penalty when they file their 2014 income tax. Enrollment in a health insurance plan must be complete by March 31. Computers will be available on a first come, first serve basis.
Persons who receive their health care through Medicare, Medicaid, Children Health Insurance Program (CHIP), Veteran’s Affairs, job-based or private insurance providing minimum coverage as required by law are not required to enroll in the Marketplace.
Because of potential problems with the website, identity verification, and eligibility determinations, people are advised to enroll as soon as possible. The call center at (800) 318-2596 is available to enroll people 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Navigators at Special Health Resources for Texas, Inc., may be contacted at (903) 247-1078 or [email protected].
